What About Those Who Are ‘Not So Lovable’?

by: Karlene Bartolo

We do good to others out of the love that Christ has for us.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10 (NIV)

Have you ever hesitated to show someone kindness because you feel they are not the kindest or nicest person you’ve met? What about their appearance? Scripture tells us that everywhere Jesus went, he was doing good …to all. We read about the poor, the rich, the sick, the healthy, those highly esteemed, and those regarded as filthy or unjust. He didn’t discriminate; He was kind to all. Do we, sometimes unknowingly, discriminate when it comes to doing good or being kind?

Paul instructs us to do good to ALL people. How can we accomplish this without prejudice? We know that the fruit of the spirit includes kindness and love. Being transformed and having renewed minds, we love as God does. God loves all people. “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” Therefore, being God’s children, let us be kind to all. And who knows? Living like that, you may become even more aware of God’s amazing kindness towards you! (Matthew 5: 45)

Prayer

Father, thank You that You love all people.  Help me to love the way You love, so it’s natural for me to be kind at every opportunity.
