Waiting on the Breakthrough

by: Brittany Deegan

When life’s trials come our way it can be tempting to give up on the breakthrough we’ve been trusting God for. But we are not called to be quitters, we are called to persevere in hope and stand firm in the promises of God despite our current circumstances.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Ever since Eden, the enemy has been deceptively implanting the lie in our ear that God is not trustworthy. As believers, we have a choice to make. We can choose to allow Satan to wear us down with lies or we can stand firmly established in a strong belief that God is worthy to be trusted and is always good to us no matter what life’s circumstances may throw our way. It is essential for us as believers to stand on the truth of God’s word when circumstances are not aligning to the promises we have received, instead of changing God’s word to align with our temporary situation. We must come back to the place again and again where we say, “Lord, this is what you say in your word and this is what you said to me.”

When obstacles and circumstances arise that seem to interfere with the promises of God in our lives, the enemy will try his best to persuade us to quit, give up, lose hope, and harden our hearts against the Lord. But we are not called to be quitters when we face difficult trials. We are called Victors in Christ and we are called to persevere in hope.

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance” (1 Cor 13:7).

Sometimes, the promises of God come quickly and effortlessly and these are wonderful testimonies of rejoicing and celebration. But often, the promises of God can be a place where we contend in prayer, wait in faith, and choose to hold our ground until we see the breakthrough happen. We circle promises in prayer and come back to them again and again knowing that love means always hoping and enduring through trials. Receiving the promise, praying, waiting, trusting, prayer circling, coming back again to it, reminding ourselves, this is our battle of contending for our inheritance.

What promises do you feel like the Lord has spoken over your life through his word when seeking his voice in the secret place of intimacy? Don’t give up on these dreams, they originate from the heart of the Father. Decide today that you will not back down on the inheritance God has for you. Step into the arena of faith and cling on tightly to the steady anchor of hope (Hebrews 6:19). Because hope, beloved, is not a wish, but a powerful weapon that drives us on and brings us to the other side of breakthrough, the victory.

Prayer

Lord, I trust the promises you have given me and I trust as I continually place my faith in your word that I will see the goodness of the Lord while here in the land of the living (Psalm 27:3). Your word never fails and you are always faithful. Help me to keep my eyes locked on you and help me to wait in hopeful anticipation as mountains are moved and thrown into the sea on my behalf. Rise up in my spirit a warrior’s heart that will contend for and hold fast to the promises you’ve given me. I will say yes and amen to all you have for me.
