The Way of the Warrior

by: Keith Gettmann

Being a warrior is our legacy, our inheritance.

"Because of their skilled leadership the hearts of people are filled with the treasures of wisdom and the pleasures of spiritual wealth. Wisdom can make anyone into a mighty warrior, and revelation-knowledge increases strength. Wise strategy is necessary to wage war, and with many astute advisers you’ll see the path to victory more clearly." Proverbs 24:4-6 (TPT)

“A warrior filled with wisdom ascends into the high place and releases regional breakthrough, bringing down the strongholds of the mighty.” Proverbs 21:22 (TPT)

When we think about battles in our lives, we realize that some battles go on for a long time. Many times we become tired and weary. Sometimes, we quit. Sometimes, we push through.

We may look in the mirror and said “What?”. This person does not look like a warrior. So, when we read Proverbs 21:22 again, we say, “What am I missing here?”. Can you relate?

“So no wonder we don’t give up. For even though our outer person gradually wears out, our inner being is renewed every single day. We view our slight, short-lived troubles in the light of eternity. We see our difficulties as the substance that produces for us an eternal, weighty glory far beyond all comparison, because we don’t focus our attention on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but the unseen realm is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (TPT)

So, as His children, what should our perspectives be in these seasons? Do all of our troubles seem short lived? Are we temporal or are we eternal? This scripture says that we are both. Our outer being, our flesh is designed for built in obsolescence. But, our inner being, our spirit is being renewed every single day.

What do we do if weariness sets in?

“And don’t allow yourselves to be weary or disheartened in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!” Galatians 6:9 (TPT)

Are we warriors?

“Through faith’s power they conquered kingdoms and established true justice. Their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality! It was faith that shut the mouth of lions, put out the power of raging fire, and caused many to escape certain death by the sword. In their weakness their faith imparted power to make them strong! Faith sparked courage within them and they became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into battle array.” Hebrews 11:33-34 (TPT)

Being a warrior is our legacy, our inheritance.

Do we have weapons? Are they just defensive in nature? Or, are they offensive? Do we know who we are fighting? Who is our enemy?

“Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser! Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For they are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in bondage. Because of this, you must wear all the armor that God provides so you’re protected as you confront the slanderer, for you are destined for all things and will rise victorious.” Ephesians 6:11-13 (TPT)

We have both defensive and offensive weapons. We are to confront, attack via hand-to-hand combat, the demon-gods and evil spirits. And, we are destined to rise victorious.

Now, let’s go back to being a warrior filled with wisdom. How do we step into this role, this identity?

“Because of their skilled leadership the hearts of people are filled with the treasures of wisdom and the pleasures of spiritual wealth. Wisdom can make anyone into a mighty warrior, and revelation-knowledge increases strength. Wise strategy is necessary to wage war, and with many astute advisers you’ll see the path to victory more clearly.” Proverbs 24:4-6 (TPT)

So, let us seek the author of wisdom. Let’s renew and transform our minds daily in reading and declaring his convent word. Let’s surround ourselves with astute advisors knowing that wisdom is found in the counsel of many. Let’s pray continuously for wisdom, revelation-knowledge, and understanding. Finally, as his warriors, let’s never retreat but lock arms together on the front line and always advance, taking more and more territory.

Prayer

Father, we desire to be warriors ascending into the high places, releasing regional breakthrough, and tearing down strongholds. We know that our weapons are not carnal but your mighty God given weapons. Through Jesus, we already have the victory that was ordained and established before the beginning of time. Now, hear our prayer and give us your wisdom so that we can run with endurance adorned with your majesty and filled with your glory. Amen.
