Resurrection Power

by: Jenny Lynn

The Easter story depicts a brutal death, a victorious defeat, and a powerful resurrection. Jesus did it all to secure eternal connection between God and man, to make a way for life to reign over death. The power that raised Him from the dead is still at work today and the scripture says its available to all of us who believe!

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace…I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:7,19-20

Jesus was beaten beyond recognition. He was nailed to a cross, mocked and jeered. For hours he suffered. The sky darkened as the penalty for sin, all sin, was heaped upon him. Later that day, He breathed His last words as a man, declaring “It is FINISHED.” Then, Jesus died. His family and followers wept. Hell cheered. Heaven looked on with somber expectancy.

The Easter story doesn’t end with death, but life. The incomparably great power of God resurrected Jesus from the grave as the victorious conqueror over death. Scripture says, Jesus “broke the power of him who holds death - that is the devil” (Hebrews 2:15). When Christ’s followers found the tomb empty on the third day, an angel appeared declaring “He is not here, He is risen just as He said He would” (Matt. 28:6). I can only imagine how Heaven erupted in joyous celebration at that moment. Death was defeated and life was secured for all who believe. John 10:10 tells us that “Christ came that we may have life, and life abundantly.”

It is a struggle to find the words to aptly express gratitude for this brutal, enormous and extravagant demonstration of love by the Father and Son for all of mankind. The ultimate sacrifice, the ultimate hero, the greatest love story of all time was real and it was planned so that you and I could experience abundant life through Christ on this earth and for all eternity.

I believe there is a call this Easter to truly take hold of the abundant life Christ purchased for us on the cross. Paul urges the church in Ephesus to understand “the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him…the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in…heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:19-20). Can you conceive of the enormity of power required to defeat the grave and raise Jesus from the pit of hell into heavenly realms and seat Him alongside the Father? Power like that is beyond anything we have seen in this natural world. The resurrection power of God has no rival, no comparison, no limit.

Paul explains that this resurrection power is “for us who believe.” Is there an area in your life that is not what you would not refer to as abundant? I can think of a few! Maybe it’s your health, your finances, your family relationships, your work, or your future? You see, that same resurrection power is working for you, God’s beloved daughter or son. Carve out some time this week to think, journal, and pray into this revelation: God’s resurrection power is available to us who believe. The areas that seem dead and hopeless are actually radiating with hope. Abundant life is not just possible, it is God’s intention for your life!

Does this Gospel story sound too good to be true? It’s ok, it should! That’s how powerful and loving the King of Kings, the Creator of the Universe, the Father of all really is. He is the Author of the miraculous and the Creator of impossibly great endings. Trust Him with your heart, your life, and your circumstances this Easter. His affections are towards you and His incomparably great power - the same power that rose Christ form the grave - is working on your behalf.

Prayer

Oh Lord we are overcome by your loving kindness this Easter. There is no love like that of laying down your life for another, and you oh Jesus you did it once and for all mankind! What a Savior you are! We celebrate your power this Easter, your resurrection power that not only defeated death but has secured life for us for all eternity. Lord we want to understand more of this power that you said continues to work on our behalf today even on this earth, in the reality of our circumstances.  We know that your limitless, unmatched power heals, restores, reconciles, favors, promotes, and creates.  We pray for a manifestation of your resurrection power in the details of our lives so that Your name is made great to the ends of the Earth for all to see how good, loving and powerful you truly are!
