Oh how He loves us

by: Michelle Haswell

The Lord places a banner of love over us that protects us and brings us peace.

“He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love [for love waved as a protecting and comforting banner over my head when I was near him].” Song of Solomon 2:4 AMPC

Just as an umbrella protects us from the rain and provides shelter from the blazing sun, so the Lord’s banner of love protects us from condemnation and provides shelter from any lies the enemy would want us to believe about who are. His banner of love over us becomes our defense and fortress. When we are faced with accusation, we look up and are reminded of His great love for us. When we pray through challenging circumstances, we know His banner of love protects us through the storms, because we know He is always faithful.

When I have an umbrella I can walk in the rain and move forward to where I want to go without getting wet. The Lord’s banner of love over us empowers us to move forward in all God has for us, not allowing us to be hindered by doubt and fear because we know He loves us and is for us. His love enables us to have full confidence in Him at all times.

When we mess up and say or do things that we know are not okay, His banner over us remains and we are reminded that because of His great love for us He sent His son who died and rose again and paid the penalty for all our sin. We are completely forgiven in Him and nothing can separate us from His great love. His banner of love over us empowers us to say no to sin.

His banner over us will bring peace to anxious hearts and fearful thoughts because the Word tells us that He will quiet us with His love (Zephaniah 3:17).

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

The fierce love of our Heavenly Father waves as a protective and empowering banner over the lives of His children and He longs for us to look up and see Him and know His great love for us. When we do, we become the sons and daughters who move mountains, heal the sick and put the enemy to flight. We become those who comfort those who mourn and impart faith where there has been unbelief. We become those who live in the revelation that His love never fails or give up on us but rather empowers us to live in the freedom Jesus paid for on the Cross. We live secure under His banner of love, empowered to be all He has called us to be!

Prayer

Father, thank you for your cloak of love around me and your kindness to hold me. Thank you that I am safe in your love and empowered by your grace. Help me to experience this more and more each part of each day. Amen.
