No Payment Plan.  It is Finished!

by: Karlene Bartolo

Jesus paid for all our sins on the cross. We do not have to perform any further sacrifices or works. We are free!

Every priest goes to work at the altar each day, offers the same old sacrifices year in, year out, and never makes a dent in the sin problem. As a priest, Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it! ...It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. ... Once sins are taken care of for good, there’s no longer any need to offer sacrifices for them. Hebrews 10:11-18 (MSG)

What if someone releases you from a large debt you owe? For example, a mortgage, a car payment, or a student loan?

How would you react? Would you reject the offer, continue to make payments, and worry about the debt? Sounds crazy, right? Well, that’s the exact response many believers have towards salvation, even though ALL our sins have been forgiven and paid for by Jesus Christ.

Our Heavenly Father knew that, on our own, we could not live up to His righteous expectations because we would always struggle with sin. But the Father loved us and did not want to be cut off from us, so He sent His Son Jesus Christ to make atonement for all our sins. That’s right: Father placed on Jesus ALL the sins of mankind, past, present and future. When Jesus had endured all the sufferings on the cross, He said, “It is finished”. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice, once and for all.

That is the “Good News” of salvation. That’s how much our Heavenly Father loves us. He sacrificed His Son so that He could have a relationship with us. When we believe on Jesus Christ, we can rest assured that all our sins are forgiven. There is no work for us to perform. There is no payment plan. Our redemption is complete, and we are free!

(1 Timothy 2: 5-6; John 19:30; Romans 3:24 NIV)

Prayer

Father, thank You for the amazing gift of Your son, Jesus Christ.  And thank You, Jesus, for taking my place on the cross and forgiving all my sins.  Help me to embrace this gift and rest in knowing that I do not have to perform any further acts.  You did it all because you love me, and I am saved!
