God redeemed us before creation
God purposed to give us Jesus before He had even created time itself.
... (God) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began... 2 Tim 1:9 [NKJV]
I am frequently struck by the idea that we were created to live in the flow of time - it is a part of God’s creation. Because of this, it is hard to imagine eternity, “forever” or the infinite. For me, looking at the stars and having some small idea of the vastness of space is the closest I can get to imagining something really big or “infinite”.
When I think of eternity, my mind thinks “forward” - to heaven and “everlasting life” that is yet to come. However, the things that occurred before creation are just as much a part of eternity as those things that come after.
This amazing scripture reminds me that before God created time itself, God had already planned to send Jesus. That in turn implies that God already knew I would be “sinful” when He created me with a free will. In fact, even more astounding is the idea that this was always a part of God’s plan, and that I was created to be saved. The death of His Son would be the means of showing me His grace and love.
Although I cannot easily imagine infinity or eternity, God has given me another means of realizing His love - the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit living in my heart.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your rescue plan - to send Jesus - which You made before you had even created us. Thank you for this amazing demonstration of Your love, and that through Your Son, we will now be able to fellowship with You and Him in eternity. Amen.
