Be Still

by: Michelle Haswell

It would seem in Scripture that our Lord Himself favors calm and restful waters and longs for us as His Bride to experience them too. Today He invites you to walk beside still waters and find rest for your soul that only He can give. No matter what we are facing, as believers there is peace and refreshing for our souls.

A number of years ago my husband and I went out on a fishing boat in Mozambique with some fishermen. They assured us the waters would be calm and that we would most definitely see come good catches. They were accurate on the latter but that day the sea was anything but calm. It became so rough that we had to cut our expedition short and return to shore.

Last year we had the privilege of again being on a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee.

This experience was deeply moving as we were surrounded by the very water that Jesus walked on and commanded to be still. The Sea of Galilee was like glass , it was so calm and peaceful.

I personally preferred the calm sea!

It would seem in scripture that our Lord Himself favors calm and restful waters and longs for us as His Bride to experience them too.

Psalm 23 tells us that he leads us beside the still and restful waters.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.”

Psalm 23:2-3 NIV

In Mark 4 we see Jesus commanding the waves to be still:

“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”

Mark 4:39 NIV

Maybe there are some storms raging in your life. Today He invites you to walk beside still waters and find rest for your soul that only He can give. He is our God who reaches into those places of unrest and fear and uncertainty and with one word causes the storms to cease and become like that Sea of Galilee. No matter what we are facing, as believers there is peace and refreshing for our souls. Maybe there are areas of turmoil in your heart. Your Prince of Peace commands those places to be still just as He did to the wind and the waves because peace and rest are your portion.

Prayer

Thank you Lord that just as you commanded the waves and the wind to be still, you speak peace and rest to the places of turmoil in our hearts and lives. Thank you for your invitation to walk beside still waters.
