The Secret Place, Part Three: Where the Communing Takes Me

by: Brittany Deegan

God never meant for us to walk through this life in our own strength but rather to abide in Him and draw on His strength in order to walk out a powerful Spirit led life for the Kingdom.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV

Every person was created with an eternal spirit which allows us the capacity to connect with the living God. When we access this place of connection through seeking God in The Secret Place we develop a deeper relationship with Him and receive all of the benefits needed to live a powerful, Spirit filled life. The Secret Place allows us the precious time needed to connect with God from our inner man (personal spirit); but it also teaches us to lean into the Holy Spirit, recognizing His voice and leading in our lives (Romans 8:14). Setting aside time in private communion with God will equip us to walk in the Spirit and sharpen our response to God’s leading throughout our everyday routines. A kingdom key to living the fullest life God has for us is learning to rest and receive in the presence of God. We cannot give to others what we do not have. Our Kingdom walk begins with receiving the forgiveness and salvation Jesus offers us and then continues on in this same manner, receiving whatever grace is needed at that time from our Heavenly Father (Hebrews 4:16) When we Spend time in his presence we are empowered from the Holy Spirit to lead a life that truly reflects the image of Jesus (Gal. 5:25).

Here are some of the benefits that follow from a personal time of communing with God…

1.) Draws me into deeper intimacy with God. (1 Cor. 1:9)
2.) Provides me with the opportunity to not only hear from God in the moment, but tunes my ears to hear his voice throughout my busy day. (Jn. 10:26-27)
3.) Strengthens my spirit in the Lord. (1 Sam. 30:6)
4.) Provides me with time to unburden worry and rest in the Lord. (Ps. 23:2)
5.) Provides a time to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise to God. (Jer. 33:11)
6.) Provides a place to express my heart (fears, concerns, gratitudes, questions, etc…). (Lam. 2:19)
7.) Enlarges my capacity to love and care for others. (1 Jn. 4:16)
8.) Allows me time to study and meditate on God’s word, confirming what I hear from him personally. (Ps. 119:15-16)

I’ll leave you with the beginning of one of my favorite songs that so sweetly captures the essence of The Secret Place. Enjoy his presence beloved! He is waiting for you!

In the quiet of my soul
In the stillness I hear Your voice call
And I am overwhelmed
And I am lost for words
To describe you
Jesus, You’re more than a friend
And Jesus You’re more
Than my heart could ever express
Your love and Your grace never fail me
Your merciful touch always heals me
You bring joy to my soul

“More Than a Friend”

Prayer

Thank you Lord that you call me into an intimate place with you where I am refocused, replenished, and recharged in my spirit to walk out this extraordinary life you have planned for me. I am not alone in this journey. You are with me and for me, your hand steadies me and guides me. I will rest in you and find my strength in you alone. I know you are for me and I can do all things in you and through you. Amen.
