Indulgent Rest

by: Kristine Wendt

There’s an invitation before all of us for the 'more of God' in the ways of Rest by His presence. Rest is a consistent awareness toward the nature of Holy Spirit that we can intimately and knowingly access. We are handsomely invited to receive abiding rest as a source for life; not momentary rest from the scenery of life.

“Now God has offered us the same promise of entering into his realm of resting in confident faith. So we must be extremely careful to ensure that we all embrace the fullness of that promise and not fail to experience it.” Hebrews 4:1 (The Passion Translation)

Our Heavenly Father gave out a Promise that we can embrace in all fullness. The currency of rest in our lives flows from the equity of the Person who gave unlimited access to it. Jesus Christ entirely spent himself on the cross and in the grave that we might enter into an eternal realm marked with rest. Rest is found in personal contact within the Presence of Holy Spirit, intimacy with our Savior and as an heir of our Heavenly Father. The secret place, where we enjoy the Word and the worshipful communion with Father, is a place of intimacy and it’s where rest is deposited within us, ever while the rest of our day unfolds around us.

For me, the lifestyle shift on rest came when I locked eyes with God to see the real Him. Rest came when I saw myself rightly, in light of who He really is. The substance of the Spirit altogether disoriented my former ways. It took me some time to unlearn the methods of striving and sin-management that I had been accustomed to for so many years. Where I dwelt, inadvertently, in confusion or chaos, Father was at rest. Where I was frenetic, He was in the bliss of peace. Slowly, I learned to evacuate prior thinking to receive the exchange of kingdom mindset.

“For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength.…” Isaiah 30:15 (AMPC)

There’s an invitation before all of us for the ‘more of God’ in the ways of Rest by His presence. Our mindsets expand in latitude at the magnitude of His power within us. Since rest isn’t a destination but a perspective and moreover, a Person, our rest is found in the liberty of His presence.

Rest is a consistent awareness toward the nature of Holy Spirit that we can intimately and knowingly access. Greater is the pressure flowing out from within us than the pressure of this world around us (1 John 4:4). The same power that quiets a storm, stills our soulical wanderings. We are handsomely invited to receive abiding rest as a source for life; not momentary rest from the scenery of life. To rest with God is altogether indulgent and perfectly simple.

“The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” Isaiah 32:17-18 (NIV)

Prayer

Thank you Holy Spirit for administering rest to us from your fruit of peace. Thank you that rest is as real and constant as your Presence. Thank you that the rest of kingdom life pushes back the frantic of this world. Help me to activate this rest, more today than yesterday and ever more tomorrow than today, so that I am unshaken and entirely stable by your Word, in your Presence and from your Rest. Amen.
