The Worst Investment Ever

by: David Outten

The worst investment in history is the exchange of truth for a lie. The best investment is is drawing close to God and being used by Him to make earth more like heaven.

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. Romans 1:25

When you buy stocks, bonds or real estate you exchange money for the investment you you choose to purchase. Generally, you hope your investment results in an increase in value. Sometimes they don’t do well.

The worst investment of all time is described by the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:25: “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator”.
Imagine giving all the “truth” you own in exchange for “a lie.” Imagine believing that you are on this earth for no other reason than some chance arrangement of molecules. Imagine believing there is no intelligent design of the universe, society, the family or even what’s healthy for your body. You are dust that lives by chance for a time and returns to dust. You survive based on your ability to meet your needs and to defend yourself. It’s an astoundingly ugly lie with profound impact on you and the world.
The truth is that you’re a precious child beautifully made by a loving Father God. How you’re designed is astounding. You are spirit, soul and body. You fit beautifully into a grand, intelligent design. You have purpose and you are passionately loved.
In Romans, Paul describes the horrors that result from buying the lie. They’re basically what make life on earth more like hell. They fill our prisons and hospitals. The make families miserable and schools horrible. They result in war, poverty and depravity.
The good news is that Jesus Christ came to offer the opposite. He paid the price for those who bought the lie to be able to receive the truth. He is the great redeemer. He laid down his life to purchase your freedom from the lie. He offers “the truth” to all trapped in “the lie.”
In John 14:6 He says, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”
We live in a world shaped by those who walk in the truth and those who walk in the lie. There is a lot going on making earth more like heaven. There’s also a lot going on making earth more like hell.
Jesus called us “the light of the world.” We’re here to offer the good news that the world no longer need live in darkness.
One reason many people invest in the stock market is to leave an inheritance to their children and grandchildren. The greatest investment you can leave future generations is to set captives free. The more people on the planet working toward heaven on earth the better the future you leave your offspring. The more people promoting hell, the worse the future will be for your offspring.
The best investment you can make in your life is in drawing close to your heavenly Father and finding your place in his plan to make earth more like heaven.

Prayer

Father God, help me to know where I fit in in your plan to make earth more like heaven. Help me to do what you would have me do to leave a better world for future generations.
