Despite the Facts, We Live in Peace

by: Ryan Schmidt

We don't have to live life on an emotional roller coaster of ups and downs. We can choose to dwell in God's all-consuming peace.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4: 6,7 (NIV)

When we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we are given a new life enriched with peace. This means that every time we face bad circumstances, or adversity that brings about anxiety, worry, or fear, we can choose to stop and remind ourselves of God’s kindness, love, and favor over our lives, then proceed washed in the peace that only comes through Jesus..

There is a catch, though. In order to truly grasp the unlimited depth of God’s peace, He wants us to experience it while we are still in need. It’s easy to be at peace when everything is going problem free; in fact, we probably take peace for granted during those times. But to be settled in God’s peace while facing adversity strengthens our relationship with God to a new level. To remain in this unbounded peace, we need only to thank Jesus for giving us life, and constantly remind ourselves that God is bigger than anything and everything the world throws at us!

Prayer

Lord, I thank you for your all-consuming peace. Thanks to Jesus, I can dwell in that peace through every season and circumstance in my life. I ask that you continue to expand my understanding of your peace and give me experiences that lead me deeper in it. Amen.
