A Light Burden

by: Jenny Lynn

I believe there is a connection between knowing whose we are and experiencing the light burden Jesus promised believers when He said, “my burden is light.” Maybe life feels so heavy and exhausting because we have forgotten whose we are?

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

At what time do we FEEL anymore free from burden than that moment when we are raised up out of the water during baptism? PersonalIy, it was one of the most freeing moments of my life because I KNEW I was now forever HIS. I believe there is a connection between knowing WHOSE we are and experiencing the light burden Jesus promised believers in Matthew 11:30 “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Maybe life feels so heavy and exhausting because we have forgotten whose we are?

Our Daddy God is THE most powerful, creative, and kind being in all of existence. He tells us in 1 Peter 5:7 to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. Our burden is light because He takes on all our needs, anxieties, and plans for the future and says “I got this.”
Matthew 6:28 says “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.” We don’t have to work hard to figure out life, that’s the Lord’s burden to carry. Ours is easy and light, we must simply believe who He says He is and what He says He will do for us.

We are children of the God of the impossible. Even when we can’t conceive HOW God will breakthrough in a circumstance, from His vantage point in heaven He says “this is EASY for me!” “For thus says the Lord, ‘You shall not see wind or rain, but that stream bed shall be filled with water, so that you shall drink, you, your livestock, and your animals.’ This is a light thing in the sight of the Lord” (2 Kings 3:17-18). We don’t have to carry the burdens that come from seemingly impossible situations (i.e. sickness, broken relationships, financial needs, etc.). We are the daughters and sons of the King of the Universe and He makes a way where there seems to be no way. “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland” (Is. 43:19).

Remember whose you are and rest, knowing He’s got it.

Prayer

Thank you God for freedom that your salvation brings.  Thank you Daddy for taking all of our fears, anxieties, and circumstances off our shoulders and creatively and miraculously providing solutions, healing, and breakthrough on our behalf!  We receive your easy yoke and declare once again our trust in a truly trustworthy Father.
