Making waves - in a good way

by: LauraBoal

Kindness has a ripple effect!

So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Philippians 1:9 (MSG)

We’ve all skipped rocks over the water to watch the waves they make. But did you know how far waves travel? Ancient Polynesian navigators boasted that they could find the nearest land from the center of any ocean in the world because they could “read the waves.” Islands, continents, atolls: all made different kinds of waves and they could be read from thousands of miles away!

In the same way, the kindness we share with others has a ripple effect. Imagine a harried cashier or bank teller. She’s sharp with you because she’s having a seriously bad day, and maybe your flesh wants to be sharp right back at her. But the mighty presence of God dwells in you! His vast presence makes waves of grace in your spirit that transcend any little ripples she can make.

So you ask Him to let you see her with Heaven’s eyes, and His affection rolls over you. Instead of responding to her words, you respond to God’s Holy Spirit. Maybe He gives you a word for her, or maybe you just thank her for helping you and tell her that God loves her. Either way, His grace flowing through you can create ripples of peace in her spirit. There’s no telling how far your kindness can travel.

Prayer

Father, thank You for dwelling in me! Help me to be so saturated with Your presence that it creates ripples all around.
